This movie is absolutely everything I ever wanted from a Batman film. The lighting, the performances, the symbolism, the characters, everything was incredible and perfect. This movie is the single greatest monster-verse movie ever constructed, and the fact that it was made with less money than a single episode of She-Hulk is baffling. This movie focuses more on the human story, and Godzilla feels more like a force of destruction than a character, which for me makes the story so much more engaging and detailed. Everything from the way this movie was shot, to the design of Godzilla, to the soundtrack and sound design, was incredible. This was also the first and probably last Godzilla movie to make me cry, because the human story of survivor's guilt was so wonderfully written and told. Also the captain is by far the best character in the movie, his charisma resonated with a strength that could power an entire city. Overall, they killed him with the power of the sea... or did they? |

I went into this movie expecting something akin to maybe the first avengers movie, and with a touch of defenders. But man, this hit harder than i ever would've thought. So much so i don't even want to fully explain how it hit, cuz im not tryna dump on letterboxd. But this movie was incredible in ways i truly never expected any marvel movie to be. It hit the standard criteria of a varied cast of main characters, each with unique personalities and personal struggles, as well as an engaging and compelling villain. But then it started diving deeper. They got it right at the beginning of the movie, but when i tell you they dove so much further past that in the end i mean it. I haven't cried from marvel in a while, and it really doesn't happen often, but this time it wasn't just because spiderman died or aunt may died or iron man died. No, there wasn't a death at all. It was just so... Human. So real. Seeing a character like Sentry, a hero with godlike powers in marvel standards, fall to the void in the way they showed, i related more than I'd care to admit. Damn good movie |

There are two superhero movies that are perfect and exactly what I want them to be, for two different reason: The Batman and The Suicide Squad. Where Suicide Squad failed, James Gunn had The Suicide Squad not only succeed, but excel. The comedy is perfectly timed and written, and the writing is done so well to make me care and be invested in characters as niche as Polka Dot man. All the character performances are great and very compelling, and it's easily the funniest DC movie I've ever seen. Overall, who the fuck is Milton? |

I haven't seen many anime movies, and this was the first I saw that wasn't a studio ghibli film. I went in expecting to hate it to be honest, but the movie somehow made me feel very interested in the character's and their story. This movie pleasantly surprised me with it's comedy. This was my first Wes Anderson film, and if the others are anything like this I an excited to see more. The comedy was perfectly written and timed, Gustave was played excellently (very strange to hear Voldemort again). This was one of those movies I had on the list of 'need to watch' for a very long time. I went into it having already had the ending spoiled from a Film Theory video 2 years prior. But nonetheless I absolutely adored it. The performances were incredible, the mystery was setup beautifully, and the writing was awesome. I had heard that Matt Reeves had used Se7en for inspiration when writing the story around his Riddler, and I can see that all throughout this film, which definitely adds to my opinion on it. This movie is one of the absolute best classics I've seen. I'll admit my opinions on this movie will always be skewed upwards from nostalgia, but I'm not gonna hold that back because this movie deserves it all. The soundtrack is once again an absolute masterpiece from John Williams, and it gives me all those wonderful Star Wars vibes. This movie has all the same Indiana Jones antics that I love to see, from the repeated love interest, to the punch sound effects, and the Nazi fights. There are so many bits in this movie that I will always remember; the "No Ticket" scene, the fireplace scene, the tank fight, Marcus Brody's "escape", hell the whole movie. I love the comedy in this, and how it's amplified by Sean Conery's performance. And I absolutely just adore everything else. I've had many conversations with people about Disney's Star Wars, and have heard many people make valid arguments saying Star Wars would've been better off if Disney never made any more of it. I can understand the hate for much of Disney's Star Wars output, but this movie alone will always justify them being made. This movie is absolutely stunning, with some of the best visuals in any Star Wars medium. It's also the first Star Wars movie I've seen with genuine comedy that I quite enjoy, and that tackles some more serious themes surrounding the Alliance and the rebel effort, muddying the waters and making the Rebels seem like they're not all good. I also absolutely love this story and how it's executed, with all the character deaths being executed in such an impactful manor that it gets me every time I see it. And don't even get me started with Vader's hallway scene. That is truly the best and most intimidating scene of Vader, and in so little time instilled pure and total fear into the audience as they watched him murder rebels with absolute ease. This movie is the only star wars movies I've currently seen more than once in theaters, and it's one of the few to earn that privilege. Overall, it's safe to say Krennic choked on his aspirations. |

When I went into watching this movie I, like most, knew the meme. My dad quotes it damn near hundreds of times a year. He ironically talked quite a bit about how one does not talk about Fight Club. So what did I know about this movie? That there was a fight club. Probably some underground fighting ring. I was expecting something like that fighting arena in Shang Chi, and was expecting this movie to be more action-based. Almost like a rated M Karate Kid. But boy was I wrong. Turns out the fight club of Fight Club is just the step stool you use to reach your mom's stash of the good shit in the back of the medicine cabinet. Because that's what it felt like watching this movie. It's been a while since a plot twist got me as well as this one's did, and I found myself genuinely engaged in everything and everyone. The way the story was told, with the usage of self narration and the slow yet subtle hints to the truth of the matter makes finding out what happened so much more appealing, because it was right in front of you the entire time. Overall, I promise I won't talk about it. |

This movie is truly Star Wars in every way that counts. Incredible large-scale action, awesome choreography in fight scenes, beautiful visuals, and a truly incredible musical score. And don't even get me started with Order 66. What an incredible, heart-wrenching scene of betrayal. A scene you know is coming, but hurts to watch every time. Whether it's in the Clone Wars, Jedi Fallen order, or even Book of Boba Fett for some reason, it pulls on my heart strings every time. And I don't think Star Wars will every be able to make a lightsaber fight better than the one between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Overall, this is where the fun begins. |

Indiana Jones is one of those movies you first see on a VHS tape back when you're too young to know anything other than 'haha han solo punched that guy', then it randomly scars you with a horrifically gruesome scene of a guy melting like a wax candle under a broiler. Then it turns out when you watch it even more on CD, then online, it ages like fine wine sealed with the wax of that melted Nazi. This movie is genuinely just iconic to me, it's almost perfect in every general way. Honestly I'd say this movie became a sort of archetype to what I like out of movies: enticing action, mystery, and spliced-in comedy. Because who doesn't like talking about how Harrison Ford actually had food poisoning in that one scene, creating one of the most riff-able and iconic standoff scenes I've ever seen. I'm a big fan of action movies. All sorts of them. Marvel, star wars, Indiana jones, gladiator, a whole bunch. The fact that Keanu Reeves received and proceed to excel in real military training for this role, then proceeded to show throughout this movie so many realistic moments of gunplay made me so happy throughout this movie. Not to mention, John Wick being in Fortnite indirectly created a massive series of skits and short films I'd later make until a Spanish or German John Wick was damn near my persona. This movie was a pleasant and unpleasant surprise. I hadn't gone into this movie expecting it to be so graphic, but to be fair I probably should have. I love the pacing and the way this movie set up the conflict, with a very realistic and cruel depiction of the killer. The manner of which Leatherface killed them, in a panicked yet efficient way, made it feel all the more terrifying to see. My only real complaint is that the movie's initial credit-roll mentioned there was a survivor, as that removed most of the tension from the final chase scene. Overall, justice for Franklin. |

Going into this movie, I didn't expect much. I'm not typically a fan of older movies, and I didn't think this would be much for me. But I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie as a whole. This is one of those movies that ages like fine wine, as you can see it's influence in modern day media the older it gets. So many plot elements and shots I recognize from some of my favorite moments in Star Wars properties, and it's also very cool to see the origin of the attack, wait, then die trope for fighting (a popular of example of that being used is in the unfortunately bad Resident Evil movie, with the lasers). However the thing that really got me into this movie was the comedy. Some intentional and some not, there were many moments in this movie that made me laugh out loud, and I found myself genuinely enjoying the personalities of the characters. However, I will say there were a few moments in which I felt certain character decisions stopped making as much sense (mostly in the end) as a means of dragging the scene's tension out more. This movie is a truly awesome debut of visual effects, existential dilemmas, and a shit-ton of guns. To say this movie had an impact on sci-fi movies to come would be an understatement, and it will definitely be a movie people remember for a while. I'd say my favorite aspect of this film is definitely the effects. They were truly ahead of their time and do a great job of adding to the feeling of surrealness. With that being said, my main issues with this film center around specific aspects of the story. I wasn't majorly compelled by the story, but it was in general a solid one. Neo is also a good and well-written character, with a well-done Luke Skywalker-esq training arc, but it's nothing mind-blowing. The main story beat I have an issue with is the ending, where Trinity's love for Neo was shown to be the thing that brings him back to life in the real world after dying in the Matrix left him effectively brain-dead. I found the idea that true love brought Neo back to life to be corny and very out of place in the world created for the Matrix, which was otherwise grounded in a sci-fi setting. As such my experience for the ending was negatively impacted as that scene left a bitter taste in my mouth afterwards. However, I will reiterate that this scene does not ruin the movie as a whole, and it's still an incredible film to watch. Overall, I'd take the blue pill (I like steak). |

This movie makes Among Us look like a game of tag. For an obvious reason (it being shot in the 80s in the snow), this movie gave me constant Hoth vibes from empire strikes back, and any movie that does that already has my vote. I'm not a gore guy, and this game truly had some next-level gore, but it honestly added to the horror of the movie. I liked the characters, and I loved the vibe the movie gave off (through the lighting, the shots, and the overall settings). However, this movie definitely would've gotten at least another half a star if the characters weren't so stupid. I can't say I was too big of a fan of this one. I liked the fighting for the most part, and the effects are mostly quite good, but I think a lot of the world building, mystery, and appeal present in the first wasn't quite reciprocated in this one. I also felt a lot of the action sequences were a bit drawn out in parts that began removing my interest in each fight. And I'm once again not a fan of the trend of 'the power of love saving them', although it was better this time since it was more like he restarted her heart with electricity. I also hope the next film better explains him being able to stop the machines, because it's deviating a bit beyond what feels feasible in the world. This movie has it's ups and it's downs, but it feels like overall it fails to capture the exact appeal that previous iterations had. First and foremost, this movie still failed to provide me with some reassuring idea or information about how Neo now has real life superpowers, instead making it even more crazy by blinding him and giving him full-on Daredevil vision. Secondly, some of the fights and effects seemed a bit repeated or unnecessary. I felt the initial scene of Neo being trapped in the train station played out in a way that made it seem almost unnecessary with how quickly it was resolved, seeming like it was almost placed there for the specific purpose of giving the others an excuse to fight. I liked many of the moments in the final matrix fight, and thoroughly enjoyed the last stand in Zion, but they repeated a few moves in the fight against Smith that sort of took away from the impact of each move. On top of that, I think they kinda overdid it with the rain and thunder, it got kinda hard to follow certain scenes in there. It's not bad but still missing alot of key points that I felt I'd need to truly enjoy it. Overall, at least the power of love couldn't save her this time. |

I can feel the Wes Anderson in this one, but it doesn't scream Wes Anderson like Fantastic Mr. Fox or Grand Budapest. This one felt more like the essence of Wes Anderson to me, but to be fair the comedy in the first two was what I appreciated the most, and it definitely wasn't as present in this one. It overall was quite a bit slower and didn't capture my interest as much, and if it weren't for the comedy from Royal and Pagoda this movie would probably be 1.5 stars for me. Overall, Owen Wilson never said wow and I'm kinda disappointed. |

Attack on Titan kind of blends together for me, and I'm definitely not rewatching this whole thing anytime soon, so I'll just review the whole thing. I watched this show over a span of make 6 years, which definitely didn't help. However, the show was definitely enjoyable. This show, and many other anime, tend to have all emotions expressed to the extreme, which for me causes the value of those emotions to deteriorate, especially over multiple seasons. I enjoyed the mystery behind it, and the animations is very well done, but I think this system was the primary reason behind the fact that this show did not resonate with me on an emotional level. Overall, SASAGEYO. |

It took some time to get used to hearing Sunny Suljic as anyone but Atreus, but once I did I loved his acting. This movie, however, was perhaps a little too sad for me. It had lots of moments that made me uncomfortable, and although I recognize that was likely the goal, it didn't help me enjoy the movie itself. Overall, I'm adding fuck-shit to my personal dictionary. |

Honestly don't have much to say about this one. I've found I'm not too interested in war movies, and most of the entertainment I got from this was from the very cinematic shots near the end with the oil rain. Jake Gyllenhaal had an incredible performance here, but in general, the movie's story wasn't very compelling or interesting for me. Overall, I walked through the valley of the shadow of Jeff. |

This movie was most definitely not what I was expecting. I went into this expecting the old-feeling historical character study, and in the beginning that's what I was getting, only really amplified by the charm of the main characters. However, the plot twist did add quite a bit of quality for me. I very much liked this movies depiction of schizophrenia, and many of those scenes were very compelling to watch. Despite this, I believe the pacing was very slow, and even after picking up with the schizophrenia reveal, I believe it went on for far too long afterwards before the conclusion. Overall, despite these problems this movie was not a waste of our - and what is infinitely worse - my time. |

This movie was my introduction to Adam Sandler, and from what I gather it's a pretty damn good start. I have a soft spot for movies that are just full of corny casual comedy, and this movie was overflowing with it. I mean this movie somehow had me cheering for Adam Sandler tormenting a child, so I'd say that's a good sign. I wasn't expecting so much of a turn near the end of the movie, and I think it lingered on that a bit too much for me, but that's more personal preference. Overall, I'll be pissed if I die and Christopher Walken is god. |

I went into this movie with mixed expectations, as on one hand I had quite enjoyed Yojimbo and Sanjuro, but one other hand I was worried the lack of the samurai storyline would take away from my enjoyment of the movie. In a way, I was right on both ends. This movie was enjoyable thanks to some very well-done shots, but mostly thanks to the intelligence of the characters throughout (once again, smart people being smart in movies makes me happy). With that being said, I found the story and characters less engaging than the previous Kurosawa films I've seen. Overall, this movie had it's highs and lows. |

Another movie that feels classic, but to me wasn't always a good classic. This movie has definitely grown on me. Although the writing isn't great in many ways, and the movie often feels like it dives a bit more into the more nuanced politics that many others, it has a certain charm to it that makes me enjoy watching it regardless. The few lightsaber fights it has are very well choreographed, and honestly I gotta say I kinda like Jar Jar. The biggest injustice is how they treated Darth Maul. He was way too cool of a Sith to have like 3 speaking lines. Finally I don't get the midichlorian hate, it's totally fine to me. Overall, I will be watching this movies career with great interest. |

This movie had high and low points, but for me it sort of averaged out as a typical run-of-the-mill action movie. I found the story a bit confusing to follow at times, and the action sequences were a bit over-the-top, which just didn't work for me personally. I also didn't like the way the movie ended story-wise, which I understand is due to Vol. 2 being released at the same time: a creative decision that I personally don't like. This movie did, however, have some nice shots and camerawork, which balanced it out for me. Overall, she didn't even kill Bill. |

I've found over recent viewing of other movies, that I'm not particularly fond of war movies. Although this movie had many well-planned shots, and it was cool to see the scale of how they pulled this off, I wasn't too interested in most of what's happened here. For a war-based movie, the only aspects that typically catch my eye are comedy and action, and although I recognize that neither were the focus of this film, it doesn't change that I didn't like their absence. Overall, this movie was not quiet, so must've been the east. |

This movie's intrigue for me comes from the unique perspective of showing a monster attack. As a fan of the Godzilla movies, I find the pedestrian-level perspective to be very interesting. Similar to Godzilla Minus One, this movie uses the monster more as a means of destruction rather than the main character, which allows for more development of the characters. With that being said however, I wasn't very interested in much of the characters. I didn't find myself caring for them too much, and the story itself was both predictable and uninteresting. Overall, how long is that fucking camera battery like holy shit. |

For starters, had I rated this movie purely off my enjoyment it probably would've gotten 1/5. It was remarkably boring to me for most of the movie, with only patches of excitement scattered within. I also felt the pacing didn't work for me, and a lot of the narrative elements left me feeling a lack of connection to the characters they focused on. To preference this review, I understand that the goal of this movie was to make you uncomfortable, and to be very graphic, but admittedly my enjoyment of watching this movie was very much affected by this. It felt almost excessive for me, and rather than adding an element of horror it just made be very repulsed. There were elements of the story that I enjoyed enough to get it up to 2.5 stars, but the rest really impacted my ability to watch it, and this is most definitely a movie I'd rather not watch again. The most common way I describe this movie is if you were to take A New Hope, and run it through a photocopier like 100 times. It's the same thing, just worse. A lot of what was done in this movie felt like they were just playing it safe because they were too scared to do something unique for thier new story. On top of that, the decision to market Finn as the Jedi, only to make it Rey was just not right at all. A force sensitive stormtrooper defector would've been far more interesting than another orphan kid on a desert planet. Overall, Harrison Fold definitely only did this movie because they agreed to kill Han. |

This was the first movie I've seen in Spanish, and it was definetly one of the movies of all time. It has a very interesting premise, but I don't think it was executed as well as it could've been. This was definitely one of the movies of all time, and that's mostly because it's a war movie. I've mentioned this in previous reviews, but I've found I'm just not very interested in war movies like these. This movie felt like it would stand out, however. I was very compelled by the boot camp storyline with Vincent D'Onofrio, who I had only ever seen play Wilson Fisk before, and I was fully expecting to like this movie quite a bit for that. But I wasn't a fan that this story was cut short, then an entirely different and far less compelling story played out to finish the film. I feel if this movie was entirely focused on that boot camp storyline, it could have been far more interesting. Overall, don't touch his rifle: he's very protective. |

This movie had it's priorities, and it definitely kept them straight, but I can't say I like them. This movie has a certain charm to it, like the kind you'd expect from that super-niche holiday movie you saw when you were 12, then keep seeing one or two random clips of on TikTok. However, I think I can safely say this movie doesn't do much for me quality-wise. The only aspect of this movie that stood out to me was Ernest's acting, especially in the scenes where he cut between multiple different personalities. I thought I was gonna really like this one because of what I remembered of Sentinel's betrayal, but the fact that it happened so early on in the movie, and then the movie's packed with SO many dull and boring human scenes really ruined it for me. This is the kind of movie that is really, really bad, but is also responsible for the start of a really, really good story. If that show didn't exist I would truly hate Anakin's character, and this movie is largely the reason for it. This ones gonna be a long one. I could nitpick a lot from this film, but we're gonna try to keep things isolated to the more prominent issues. Everything to do with Luke Skywalker in this film is miserable. His decision to immediately try and kill his own nephew the moment he has visions of his darkness is unbelievably stupid and nothing like the Luke Skywalker who let himself get electrocuted by Palpatine out of confidence that his father still had good in him. His decision to end the Jedi order in turn is even stupider, especially leaving his mistake with Kylo unresolved. I've seen some make this comparison to the actions of Obi-Wan and Yoda, but unlike those two Luke wasn't being hunted by a Galactic Empire. It's absolutely ridiculous. On top of that, the way he acted was just miserable and uninteresting, and the fact that he still never even leaves the island, instead just projecting himself to the planet. Add to that the fact that it kills him? Even stupider. The final note to that, why the hell is there a map to Luke Skywalker? The only way that makes sense is if he made it himself, so why would he give it to some random guy on Jakku if he didn't want to be found? Anyway, next part. What they did with the fleet, killing Admiral Ackbar, doing a weird fake-out death for Leia ending in some absolutely ridiculous force stunt that comes out of nowhere and makes basically no sense at all, made even worse by what they do after it. Admiral Hondo is absolutely one of the stupidest character decisions I've seen in a while. I mean what logic is there behind her deciding not to tell Poe what they're planning to do, or even that they had a plan. The whole fleet coup scene is made so annoying by the fact that it's truly not controversial. The movie doesn't seem to even treat Hondo as the problem, they still act like Poe was the hot-shot flyboy problem the whole time. Anyway, let's keep going. I don't like the character decision in episode 7 to make Finn's character essentially just constantly addicted to Rey. And they did nothing better here. His whole story that he went on with Rose, a character that felt entirely pointless and forced in, was also genuinely horrible. It really felt like they tried some weird political shit from Canto Bite that not only wasn't good, but also made little sense at all. The entire planet side-mission felt unnecessary and dragged out to a ridiculous degree... (cont. on letterboxd) |

This movie is the equivalent of pissing on someone's grave after eating asparagus, then taking a runny shit on it, dumping a barrel of plague-ridden rats on top, then just blowing it up. The only things in this movie that give me a remote sense of joy are the Sith trooper designs and the sound of the lightning on Exegol. Instead of ending this trilogy in a minor sense of grace after the dumpster fire of the last jedi, JJ Abrams threw a temper tantrum that he didn't get to write ep 8 and decided to add some gas to it. Could've been crazy good, could've been hype, but instead this movie just doubles down on insulting Star Wars. The best parts of the story of this movie come from the shows and games released AFTER to try and remedy it. God I wish I could erase my mind of this movie's existence.
